How Dancing The Cha Cha Helped Me Learn This Year's Astrology. A Look Ahead To 2022
It’s been a while since I’d gone to dance class with everything going on this past year. I’ve been quietly staying steady, simply focusing on my work, while staying connected to nature for sanity sake for most of the year. Finally I got back on the dance floor and signed up for about a half dozen classes this fall. I missed those familiar faces and friends from dance class. Generally West Coast Swing is my favorite. This month however, the instructor is focused on Ballroom and Latin dances.
The dance floor in many ways has become my dojo. I show up to learn again and again. The dance floor is my learning center. Naturally, I find a pure pleasure of simply getting in the flow and the joy of connection with music and others. For me, showing up for dance classes not only offers new cues on how to relate to others, but reminds me of new strategies of how to respond to life in general.
I’ve learned how to dance just fine all by myself. In social dancing however, there are rules for connection. I must pay attention to timing, clues and communication. For me to be a better partner, on the dance floor or elsewhere in life, I keep dancing. I consciously choose these lessons in dance class as a training ground to help me expand my repertoire and response to actively engage with life.
I found it’s healthy to learn how to dance to unfamiliar rhythms. Sometimes, at first, I may not like the music, or there could be a glitch in communication with my partner. I learn that over time and practice, we become more graceful, and I may even become a better listener, when new or unfamiliar cues come my way.
The dance instructor often repeats the basics again and again. Sometimes I think, oh I’ve got this, only to find that with more repetition I can still make refinements for improvement.
This week, our teacher was reviewing the Cha Cha. Cha Cha has a very specific rhythm and beat. Imagine my surprise when the instructor said, as the music gets faster, keep your movements smaller, to better maintain control. It looks nicer, too!

My brain started to explode. As the rhythm gets faster, keep your movements smaller. Bam! Ka-Pow! Just like those cartoons I saw when I was a kid, the ah - ha moment for me was off the charts, as I immediately related this awareness to this past year’s astrology planet patterns. Naturally I was grinning ear to ear, but no one could see, behind my mask . . .
In 2021, two major planets were dancing together. Saturn, the planet of control, karma and consequence squared off to energetic Uranus. Uranus is the awakener. Its role or job is to quicken and shake things up! Saturn is about structure, organization and control.
Saturn and Uranus met up three times in 2021, and they will remain closely connected, but not exact, for most of 2022. While Saturn is slow and patient, Uranian energy is fast and quick! Fast and slow, new and old, momentum with steadiness are concepts to integrate as general themes going into the new year.
Here are contemplation questions that may support you with the ongoing changes for 2022:
How to move quickly and steadily with new opportunities?
How can I integrate fast change for long term future plans?
What new technologies are arising to make the earth a more amazing place to live?
As energy increases, if I experience myself or my world as out of control, what can I do to stay steady and slow down?
Hot tips for 2022:
The new year begins with a dynamic cycle called Venus Retrograde. At the end of 2021, and the start of a new cycle, many are wondering will things be different? When will it get better? This is a timeline to reevaluate what matters most.
If January feels like it’s off to a slow start, be kind with yourself. Personal planets Mercury and Venus are retrograde most of the month. Forward momentum for the new year really begins mid February. The month of March is a turning point as love planets Venus and Mars meet up most of the month in the morning sky. Early spring is a time to take action on your desires.
April is all systems go with an enormous amount of grace and inspiration. More on the new years planet patterns coming soon.
Wishing you all the best for a brighter new year. Stay steady and ignite your inner fire!
Warmly,
Kathryn
